By Game Changers Media Network | Voices of the Village Podcast — Where Change Starts With Conversation

In a rapidly growing county like Henry County, leadership in the courtroom must evolve alongside the community it serves. On a powerful episode of Voices of the Village Podcast, Judge James Darryl Boles Jr. offered more than just insight into the legal system he gave a blueprint for what Fair, Accessible, and Respectful (F.A.R.) leadership truly looks like in action.

Rooted in Henry County, Built for Service

Judge Boles isn’t just a public servant he’s a product of Henry County. Raised from childhood in McDonough and a graduate of Union Grove High School, his journey reflects the very growth of the community he now serves. From earning his associate’s degree at Gainesville State College to graduating magna cum laude from Kennesaw State University, and later attending Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School on scholarship, his academic path was defined by discipline and purpose. But it was his early exposure to mock trial that changed everything. Mock trial didn’t just introduce him to the law it sharpened his ability to think critically, communicate effectively, and advocate with precision. Competing nationally against top institutions like Duke and Yale, Judge Boles developed a courtroom presence long before he ever wore the title of “Judge.”

From Mock Trial to Mentorship

Today, Judge Boles is paying it forward. As a coach for Stockbridge High School’s mock trial team, he’s helping develop the next generation of leaders. What wasn’t available to him as a student is now a pipeline of opportunity for young people in Henry County. He’s not just teaching law he’s teaching confidence, structure, and vision.

“Community service and mentorship is everything. The youth are our future.”

A Judge with a Purpose Beyond the Bench

Judge Boles’ impact goes far beyond the courtroom. Alongside his wife, he has spent over a decade giving back through community initiatives most notably contributing 350+ backpacks annually to students in need through programs like WSB’s Stuff the Bus. His focus areas are intentional: Youth development, Mental health advocacy, Veteran support, and Assisting the unhoused population. This is leadership that doesn’t clock out it lives in the community.

Inside the Courtroom: Justice with Humanity

As a Henry County State Court Judge, Boles oversees misdemeanor criminal cases and civil matters such as personal injury and contract disputes. But his most impactful work lies within the Misdemeanor Diversion Court. This program focuses on: Individuals struggling with mental health challenges and Veterans dealing with service-related trauma Instead of punishment alone, the system offers: Mental health assessments, Counseling and treatment plans, Structured accountability and A pathway to case dismissal and record restriction

We want to give them the tools they need to move forward without repeating the cycle.”

Judge Boles removes the robe, sits eye-to-eye with participants, and speaks to them with dignity. That approach isn’t just different it’s transformative.

The Appointment: A Defining Moment

Judge Boles’ journey to the bench came through a rigorous appointment process led by the Judicial Nominating Commission. After extensive vetting, he was ultimately selected by . What followed was a life-changing phone call and a confirmation that his preparation had met opportunity. Within weeks, he was sworn in as a State Court Judge.

F.A.R.: More Than a Motto

Judge Boles stands firmly on the principle of F.A.R. — Fair, Accessible, Respectful justice.

• Fair: Every individual deserves unbiased treatment

• Accessible: The legal system should be understandable and reachable

• Respectful: Every person, regardless of circumstance, deserves dignity

In a county experiencing rapid expansion, this philosophy ensures that growth doesn’t come at the expense of humanity.
