Rick Jackson's Senior Advisor for Minority Community Development Unveils a Neighborhood Agenda Focused on Economic Empowerment, Entrepreneurship, Youth Development and Transforming Underserved Communities Across Georgia

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 2, 2026

ATLANTA, GA — The future of Georgia's communities is about more than politics. It's about opportunity, economic mobility, education, second chances and ensuring that every neighborhood has a voice in shaping the state's future.

In an exclusive and powerful episode of Voices of the Village Podcast: Where Change Starts With Conversation, former NFL player, award-winning author, motivational speaker and community advocate Frank Murphy, who serves as Senior Advisor for Minority Community Development to Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Jackson, joins the conversation to discuss an ambitious vision for empowering communities throughout Georgia.

As the November 3, 2026, general election approaches, Murphy delivers a message that challenges political leaders, business owners and community stakeholders to look beyond campaign promises and confront the issues affecting everyday Georgians.

"People are tired of politicians. They want the real. They want the real deal," Murphy declares during the interview.

FROM INCARCERATION TO THE NFL: A STORY OF SECOND CHANCES

Frank Murphy's journey is one of perseverance, faith, redemption and purpose.

After experiencing incarceration as a teenager, Murphy overcame significant obstacles to build a professional football career that included time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Houston Texans. Mentored by legendary Super Bowl-winning coach Tony Dungy, Murphy transformed his experiences into a mission of helping young people avoid the same destructive paths that once threatened his future.

As the author of The Man Behind the Helmet: The God of Second Chances, Murphy has dedicated much of his post-football career to mentoring young people, advocating for second chances and developing programs intended to reduce incarceration while creating pathways toward personal and economic success.

During the interview, Murphy challenges listeners to recognize the importance of purpose and the responsibility to invest in future generations.

"If you let your purpose go to the graveyard, you ain't just cheat yourself. You cheated the next generation," Murphy explains.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD AGENDA: BRINGING ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY TO EVERY CORNER OF GEORGIA

One of the most compelling moments of the conversation centers on what Murphy describes as the Neighborhood Agenda, a proposed community development strategy he says he has discussed with Rick Jackson.

According to Murphy, the vision is centered on expanding economic opportunities in communities that have historically faced barriers to resources, investment and business development.

The proposed priorities include:

  • Small Business Capital and Entrepreneurship: Expanding access to funding, business education and financial literacy for entrepreneurs seeking to establish and grow businesses.

  • Workforce Development: Creating more pathways into technical schools, trade programs and career training for young adults who may not pursue traditional four-year college degrees.

  • Youth Mentorship and Prevention: Developing programs that help young people build confidence, leadership skills and positive alternatives to crime.

  • Mental Health and Life Skills: Connecting communities with personal development, social skills training and mental health resources.

  • Second-Chance Initiatives: Exploring transitional programs for formerly incarcerated individuals, nonviolent offenders, foster youth, veterans and former professional athletes.

  • Statewide Economic Inclusion: Working to ensure that communities outside metropolitan Atlanta, including Savannah, Augusta, Columbus, Waycross and rural Georgia, have meaningful opportunities to participate in economic development.

Murphy emphasizes that providing capital alone is not enough. Entrepreneurs must also receive the education, technical assistance and financial knowledge necessary to create sustainable businesses.

"You can't really thrive as an entrepreneur if you don't have capital," Murphy explains. He further argues that opportunities should be communicated consistently throughout the state so that residents of underserved communities are not the last to learn about available resources.

BEYOND POLITICAL PARTIES: PUTTING COMMUNITY NEEDS AHEAD OF POLITICAL LABELS

In a candid exchange, Murphy addresses questions surrounding his decision to support Rick Jackson, a Republican candidate, and the criticism that can come with crossing traditional political expectations. Murphy emphasizes that his involvement is rooted in community advocacy rather than party loyalty. "I'm community based first. I'm not politician based first," Murphy states.

Murphy also discusses Jackson's upbringing in Atlanta's Techwood Homes, his experiences in foster care and his eventual rise as a successful healthcare entrepreneur.

According to Murphy, those personal experiences have influenced his confidence in Jackson's ability to understand economic hardship and the importance of creating opportunities for underserved Georgians.

The conversation also examines the relationship between state and federal leadership, the influence of national politics on Georgia's gubernatorial election and the importance of accountability after an election is over.

THE SECOND HALF OF THE GAME: WHAT HAPPENS AFTER ELECTION DAY?

Drawing on his professional football background, Murphy introduces what may be the most important question facing political leaders: What happens after the campaign ends? Murphy describes the election as only the first half of the game, arguing that the true measure of political leadership comes from implementing the commitments made to communities.

He says community development must involve measurable action, consistent engagement and sustained investment in the people who need opportunities most. The episode explores how public-private partnerships, entrepreneurship, workforce programs and mentorship could potentially transform communities when supported by effective leadership and long-term planning.

A CONVERSATION GEORGIA NEEDS TO HEAR

Throughout the interview, Voices of the Village Podcast examines critical questions affecting Georgia residents:

How can small businesses access capital? What can be done to address poverty and limited workforce opportunities? How can leaders invest in rural and urban communities? What will it take to create alternatives to incarceration? And how can political candidates turn campaign promises into meaningful results?

The discussion also confronts economic affordability, the need for greater community engagement and the challenge of ensuring that prosperity reaches more than just the state's largest metropolitan markets.

Voices of the Village Podcast remains committed to providing a platform for meaningful conversations across political affiliations, backgrounds and communities, ensuring that individuals have an opportunity to share their perspectives and be heard.

As Georgians prepare to cast their ballots on November 3, the episode encourages residents to become informed, ask questions, evaluate candidates and participate in the democratic process.

The message is clear: Georgia's neighborhoods deserve to be heard, its young people deserve opportunity, and its future depends on what leaders and communities are willing to build together.
