Every once in a while, you meet someone whose business is driven by purpose rather than profit. That perfectly describes Tamakio Patterson, CEO of Jewel ABA Therapy, who joined Voices of the Village Podcast to share her remarkable journey of serving children with autism and supporting families throughout Metro Atlanta.
For Patterson, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy is about much more than clinical treatment it's about giving children the tools they need to confidently navigate everyday life.
"We pretty much get children that's on the autism spectrum prepared to live in a typical world setting. We give them the tools they need to be able to go to school and function alongside their peers."
Unlike many centers that stop providing services when children reach a certain age, Jewel ABA Therapy proudly serves children ages 2 to 18, ensuring families continue receiving support throughout critical developmental years.

More Than Therapy: A Mission
After years working in healthcare, including pain management and HIV/AIDS care, Patterson discovered that her greatest gift wasn't simply providing medical services it was connecting with people. Her passion has always been helping others overcome difficult moments while reminding them they are not alone. When she launched Jewel ABA Therapy, she intentionally chose to serve the South Metro Atlanta community because she recognized a significant need not only for quality autism services but also for education. She believes one of the greatest barriers facing many families is the stigma surrounding mental health and developmental diagnoses.
"It's okay to be okay. It's okay to ask for help. There are resources out there for you."
That simple statement has become a guiding philosophy for her organization.

Supporting the Entire Family
What separates Jewel ABA Therapy from many providers is Patterson's holistic approach.
She doesn't believe therapy should end when the child leaves the center.
Instead, she works to empower parents, caregivers, and support systems because strong families create stronger outcomes for children. "I don't just help my kids. I help the people that support them and take care of them."
That people-first mindset continues to make Jewel ABA Therapy a trusted resource for families seeking compassionate care.
Changing the Conversation About Autism
Throughout the interview, Patterson challenged common misconceptions about autism.
Rather than viewing autism as a disability, she encourages people to see the unique abilities every child possesses. "People with autism are not disabled they're differently able." She explained that every child deserves the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to thrive, emphasizing that the right support system can unlock incredible potential. Her perspective shifts the conversation away from limitations and toward possibilities.

Building a Legacy of Service
From Detroit to Georgia, Patterson's journey has been fueled by one mission: helping people live better lives. Today, Jewel ABA Therapy continues to impact families by providing quality ABA services, educational resources, and compassionate support rooted in understanding, dignity, and hope.
At Voices of the Village Podcast, we believe conversations like these help remove stigma, increase awareness, and connect communities with the resources they need. Because sometimes, the strongest thing anyone can say is:
"It's okay to ask for help."
