Protecting Our Elders in a Digital World: How Wise Path Integrity Consulting Is Fighting Fraud One Family at a Time

written by Shawn Raleigh/Game Changers Magazine

In an era where scams, identity theft, and digital fraud are becoming more sophisticated by the day, one Georgia-based advocate is stepping forward to protect one of the most vulnerable groups in our communities our seniors.

On a powerful episode of the Voices of the Village Podcast, hosted by Andreal Mallard Sr., listeners were introduced to De’Ambreus Christian, founder of Wise Path Integrity Consulting a company dedicated to helping elders and families recognize, prevent, and respond to financial scams and exploitation. Drawing from over 20 years in healthcare and firsthand experience in the banking industry, Christian has made it her mission to educate families about the hidden dangers facing seniors in today’s technology-driven society.

A Calling Fueled by Compassion

De’Ambreus Christian, affectionately known as “Dee,” explained that her journey into fraud prevention began unexpectedly. After years in healthcare, she transitioned into banking and immediately noticed a troubling pattern: elderly customers were consistently being targeted by scammers. What disturbed her most was how often these victims were isolated, grieving, or simply unfamiliar with modern technology. Many seniors are navigating a rapidly changing digital world without proper guidance. While banks and businesses continue moving toward automation, apps, online banking, and AI-powered systems, many older adults are struggling just to keep up. Unfortunately, scammers know this and they exploit it every day.

Why Seniors Are Prime Targets

According to Christian, scammers specifically target seniors because they often live alone, may not have nearby family support, and are more likely to trust phone calls, emails, or text messages that appear legitimate. Some common scams impacting seniors today include: Fake court citations and legal notices, Fraudulent banking phone calls, Package delivery text scams, Romance and companionship scams, Tech support scams, Phishing emails and malicious links and Identity theft through phone spoofing. One of the most alarming revelations from the interview was how advanced scammers have become. Christian shared a real-life story of a senior woman receiving FaceTime calls that appeared to come directly from her bank. The victim believed she had developed a trusted relationship with a bank employee, only to discover she was being manipulated and financially exploited over several months.

The Emotional Side of Fraud

Fraud is not just financial it is emotional and psychological. Scammers often prey on loneliness, grief, and vulnerability. Seniors who have lost spouses or live isolated from family members become ideal targets for criminals who spend weeks or even months “grooming” victims to gain trust before stealing money or personal information. Christian emphasized that many families are unaware their loved ones are being targeted until significant financial damage has already occurred.

Practical Tips to Protect Your Loved Ones

During the interview, Christian offered several important safety tips families should immediately implement:

1. Never Click Unknown Links

Text messages claiming to be from delivery services, banks, or government agencies may contain malicious links that install spyware or viruses.

2. Verify Calls Independently

If someone claiming to represent a bank calls, hang up and call the official number listed on the back of the debit or credit card.

3. Encourage Open Communication

Families should regularly talk with elderly relatives about suspicious calls, emails, or online interactions.

4. Monitor Financial Activity

Keeping an eye on unusual account activity can help detect fraud early before losses become devastating.

5. Educate Seniors About Technology

Simple conversations about scams, privacy settings, and digital safety can make a tremendous difference.

More Than Consulting — It’s Community Protection

Wise Path Integrity Consulting is not just another consulting firm. It represents a growing movement focused on protecting dignity, financial security, and peace of mind for elders and vulnerable adults.

At a time when fraud schemes are becoming increasingly sophisticated through AI, spoofing technology, and social engineering, Christian believes education and awareness remain the strongest defense. Her work reminds us that protecting seniors is not only a financial responsibility it is a community responsibility. As technology continues to evolve, conversations like these are essential to ensuring no family is left unprepared.
