In today’s evolving landscape of leadership, service, and community empowerment, few organizations exemplify impact like Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.. Through intentional programming, strategic partnerships, and a deep-rooted commitment to service, the Henry County Alumnae Chapter is redefining what it means to lead from the front.
On a recent episode of the Voices of the Village Podcast, hosted by Game Changers Media Network, Chapter President Demetra Love Daniels shared powerful insight into the organization’s mission, growth, and community-driven initiatives.
A Legacy of Sisterhood, Scholarship, and Social Action
Founded in 1913 on the campus of Howard University, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was built on four core principles: sisterhood, scholarship, service, and social action. That legacy continues to thrive locally in Henry County, where the chapter has been serving since 2004 with a focused mission to elevate and empower communities.
Under Daniels’ leadership, the organization has expanded its footprint beyond Stockbridge and McDonough into Locust Grove and Hampton ensuring no part of the county is left untouched.

“Built for Success”: Creating Second Chances and New Beginnings
One of the chapter’s most impactful initiatives is the “Built for Success” Job Fair, a reimagined program designed to support young men ages 18–30, including returning citizens. Originally launched as an ex-offender job fair, the program has evolved into a comprehensive empowerment platform. It provides:
Career opportunities
Mentorship and guidance
Access to community leaders
A safe space for growth and networking
This initiative underscores a critical truth: communities thrive when opportunities are inclusive and intentional.
B.A.R.T. – Boys Are Readers Too: Changing the Narrative
Literacy is a cornerstone of long-term success, and the chapter is tackling it head-on through the B.A.R.T. (Boys Are Readers Too) program. By engaging middle school boys in reading and personal development, the initiative addresses literacy gaps while building confidence and discipline. Students explored powerful material like Letters to a Young Brother by Hill Harper who later appeared in person to reinforce the lessons. The program goes beyond books. It integrates: Life skills training, Civic engagement (mock elections) and Exposure to successful male leaders With support from community figures like Darius Pattillo and Reginald Scandrett, the initiative creates a pipeline of informed, empowered young men ready to lead.
Junior Shark Tank: Building the Next Generation of Entrepreneurs
Entrepreneurship is no longer reserved for adults and the Henry County Alumnae Chapter is proving it. Through the Junior Shark Tank program, students from elementary to high school levels are given the tools to develop, pitch, and launch their own businesses. Participants receive months of coaching in Business development, Financial literacy, Branding and marketing and Legal structure and compliance. With over $4,500 awarded to young innovators, the program doesn’t just inspire it equips.

Partnerships That Power Progress
A defining strength of the chapter is its ability to build strong partnerships across sectors. Collaborations with organizations like: Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. alongside educators, law enforcement, and civic leaders, create a unified front for community transformation. These alliances ensure that programs are not only impactful but sustainable.
Leadership with Vision
Since stepping into the presidency in 2023, Daniels has continued to build on years of leadership within the chapter. Her vision is clear: expand reach, deepen impact, and remain intentional about serving underserved populations. And based on the momentum seen across Henry County, that vision is becoming reality.
The Bigger Picture: A Blueprint for Community Impact
What’s happening within the Henry County Alumnae Chapter is more than programming it’s a blueprint. A blueprint for: Empowering youth, Supporting men in transition, Elevating literacy, Building entrepreneurs, and Strengthening communities through collaboration
This is what happens when leadership meets purpose.
